"Street Signs" - Drama (a short theatrical or tv film script)
In this short, a young black girl who's mother has died and who's father is working
non-stop to make ends meet, befriends a down-on-his-luck homeless man who stands on
the same corner everyday, dancing to a solitary song on his worn-down cassette player,
holding a hand-written sign that is undecipherable. She sees the ugly side of society's
treatment of those in unfortunate situations as this man is taunted, teased & looked
down upon on a daily basis.
She eventually realizes what his signs say -- various pleas for help that are written
backwards. After the man is severely beaten in an alley, the young girl & her father
take him to the hospital for help. It is soon discovered that this man is a man reported
missing from another state, sought by his family & reunited with in the end.

**This screenplay was inspired by a true story and conceived while I listened to the Curtis Mayfield song "Think", from the
"Superfly" soundtrack. This instrumental is an underlying theme to this project/piece and an
important one for/to me. Above media file created & edited by Stephanie L. Ogle
